Josef Anton Riedl was born in Munich in 1929. He studied with Carl Orff and Hermann Scherchen as well as receiving support and guidance from Pierre Schaeffer and Edgar Varèse. In 1959 he initialised the founding of the Siemens Studios for electronic music in Munich of which he became artistic director.

some time ago dbharps of the twice zonked blog posted a compilation curated by riedl in 1994, containing classic material of the 1960's from the siemens-studio für elektronische musik.
