Well, on the one hand there is Zu. The italian band's music is a fusion of hardcore punk, free jazz and noise rock. Zu's style is improvisation-based, with hardcore-like rhythmic sections and free-jazz based saxophone solos. One constant element in Zu's music is collaboration, and many of the band's albums are billed as collaborations with a guest musician - such as Mats Gustafsson, Nobukazu Takemura or Eugene Chadbourne. Who is on the other hand here. Chadbourne started out playing rock and roll guitar, but quickly grew bored with the form's conventions. He started studying other genres, including blues, country, bluegrass, free jazz, and noise—eventually synthesizing all those heterogeneous influences into a unique style of his own.
Mr. Chadbourne has worked with numerous artists including John Zorn, Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, Han Bennink, Carla Bley Band, Paul Lovens, Toshinori Kondo, Camper Van Beethoven, Jello Biafra, Sun City Girls, Kevin Blechdom, etc. - Here is Zu & Chadbourne's collaboration from 2000: This album is highly focused post-modern jazz mixed with a touch of avant-fusion. Chadbourne's electric guitar churns away and he leads the ensemble through dangerous terrain with barely a glitch. Here is the tracklist:
1. Cosmos (John Coltrane)
2. Chadbourne in the Sky with Diamonds
3. Somewhere over the Chadbourne
4. Porgy and Chadbourne
5. Holiday in Chadbournia
6. Ascenseur pour le Chadbourne
7. Inna Gadda na Chadbourne
8. ‘O Chadbourne mio!
9. House of the Rising Chadbourne
10. Stairway to Chadbourne
11. For those about to Chadbourne (We Salute you)
12. Everybody needs a Chadbourne (To Love)
13. Spirits (Albert Ayler)
