German Punk at it's best. Wow - that is a BIG sentence... Ok, maybe it is all about that they taught me Punk when I was 11 years old... I bought this LP in 1982 at a second hand market. And I loved their energy from scratch. Their biggest hit was "Da da da". They recorded the song together with Dieter Meyer ("Yello"). The backings were performed by Anete Humpe of German band "Ideal" from Berlin. It was released in 30 countries. For the non-German-speaking countries an English version was recorded (“Da Da Da I Don’t Love You You Don’t Love Me Aha Aha Aha”). Trio became really big in Brazil and Canada. One of the reasons might have been, that “Da Da Da” meant “Fuck me, fuck me, fuck me” in Brazil...
Whatever. Apart from the fact that some of the songs are very catchy - there is an extremely aggressive counterpart in songs like "Ja, Ja, Ja" or "Los Paul"... And humor. And putting it all in a nutshell -> This is Punk ! And Pop ! And Avantgarde !Get it here: Trio - Trio (1982)
And enjoy !
PS: Jezus Lizard loved them and covered some of their songs...

for me trio was the sell-out of punk, the commercial try to produce something "like" punk, whereas everything was just blank attitude. the 2 "punk" songs you mentioned are very clever, no argue, they are catchy - but "punk"? everything i love about the early punk/diy-movement is missing - they're just posers.
like later trio and singer stefan remmler's solo career demonstrated - the only thing they cared for seemed to be "how to get into the charts", left alone how dumb or stupid the music was.
it's my opinion, of course - and this blog hopefully a place to share different opinions. ;)
cheers
Wow !
They managed to intrigue me as a child (back then) with the punkrock sound. as an 11 years old I was used to Ac-Dc, Racey, Abba and the mixtapes that boyfriends of my sister provided. I was totally overwhelmed by their live-tv-presence in the early 80's. it was much more minimal, arty and - yes - punk as all the hated ndw bands that were shown then.
maybe mr. lucky is just 2 years older than mr. r3000 - maybe it is just very personal.
but I don't think that this album has anything to do with punkrock-sellout. maybe it is only punkrock in my ears - and something else in others ears...
what is early 80s punk in your ears ?
Chaos Z, Buttocks, Male und Hans-A-Plast ?
natürlich offen ;),

r3000 - i'm sure younger than you, only have seen their big hit as a kid on tv, maybe even liked it, dunno. and my sermon above is personal, of course!
i'm telling what i think today, not in 1982. about 10 years ago i heard a cover song of "los paul" by german band "ich schwitze nie", and i loved it, it had even more energy than the original!
trio was different than most commercial ndw (new german wave) - they seemed almost absurd, but they weren't. for me punk was never attached to loud guitars and angry vocals, it's a matter of do it your very own unique way, like some of the early punk bands in the uk or switzerland - and i'm mostly thinking of female band like the raincoats, the slits, kleenex/liliput. although i'm german it's difficult to define some german 'punk' bands groups - maybe something like early der plan would come close, completely against the 'general' punk fashion, and therefore standing on their own - xao seffcheque (austrian!), syph, holger hiller, peter hein maybe were punks, rüdiger carl and hans reichel were punks without coming near the punk attitude... but i'm starting to drop names, i fear.
to be true, i can't stand what's been called "deutsch-punk", and even bands like hans-a-plast and male are so shallow in their lyrics, that it's hard to stand a second and third time.
but forget about all i wrote - listen and make up your own minds... ;)
SALUT
Hey Lucky,
it's true I have my problems with the so called deutschpunk as well. my teen years were like: too young for punk and too old for techno, haha. the after-fun zitronen are fabulous and still come closest to my definition of punk. maybe the boxhamsters, too. but still this album started something for me. it stretched my horizon and I still like to listen to it. maybe I shouldn't have surfed the "punk-wave" in my text, because maybe it is not hitting the right point for the album as a whole. on the other hand: whatever ! I know it's an arguable band - so thanks for the arguments !
Best,
R3000
Thanks.
Your welcome !
When some friends and me started a band in 1982, the minimalism of Trio where really inspiring for us. NDW was commercial successful then, but we didn't care in 1982 and I didn't care now. But now I also think, Trio din't age as well as other NDW-Bands.
