A friend reminded me of this brilliant pianist and his early works from the 60s. In his teens he already played with Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Johnny Griffin. Later he developed his Hard-Bop roots to more avant-garde or free areas. He would often play against the rhythmic pulse, or move into different time signatures. Hill's desire to advance while remaining grounded in the traditions of his predecessors like Erik Dolphy resulted in very rhythmic and harmonic complexities of his performances and compositions. Get this great album here: Andrew Hill - Compulsion (160 Kbps)
And enjoy ! It's very nice...
PS: I reupped "Free Jazz in East Germany (1950-2000)"
