Station 17 - Hitparade (2001)

Station17 is a German-based collective of mentally handicapped talents that write and produce their own tunes. Bring in an A-List of remixers, namely - Pole, The Modernist, To Rococo Rot, Barbara Morgenstern, Kreidler, Thomas Fehlman, Antonelli Electr and many more and what you get is an inspired collection of special tunes mixed in with the cutting edge of electronic music composition. The Modernist opens up with a light, breezy gem of a poppy tune, short and ever so sweet. Steve Bug's contribution is a real highlight - heavy basslines conjured up out of static and layered with lovely warm accoustic guitars and plick-plock wooden rhythms. Pole offers up one of his poppiest tracks - kinda like Rhythm and Sound with Inuit vocals, before Barbara Morgenstern injects a bit of her gently crafted piano-melancholy into the proceedings. Killer. To Rococo Rot, finally, deliver as per usual with stretched chords and reversed loops slashing accross the dry, kraftwerk-esque monotonal vocal delivery. DJ Koze is there, FM Einheit is as well. Utterly charming.
