Alex Chilton - "Bach's Bottom" (1981)

Hey, I am loving this album for merely 20 years, now. I dont want to tell you about the thousands and thousands of sellings this guy had in his teens. You all probably know so much about the "Box Tops" and about "Big Star"... But this release is so special. It is recorded in 1975. It has been released in 1981 because no record-company understood or dared to do so. It is so fucking Pre-Punk. You can listen to a punch-drunk Alex Chilton all the time on this recording. He is asking us something like: "Does anyone have any Aspirin - I need a Painkiller... " - But thats not all - there is so much more in it. Would you cope with someone who would call you a slut in front of your family ?
You probably would. But who else would ?! - Mr. Chilton is telling the whole story. After that: "I am so tired - I haven't slept a wink..." - I believe him - "I wonder, should I get up - and fix myself a drink..?" - "Yes, yes, yes !" - we would respond to John Lennons words... But Chilton´s "No, no, no !" has so much more to say.

To be honest, I just loved his screams about being "Free Again" everytime I had to split up relationships on my own. For those who don't know, his compositions have been performed by a number of artists, including This Mortal Coil, The Bangles, Wilco, Graham Coxon, Garbage, Tom Bradbury, Son Volt, Counting Crows, Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley, Evan Dando, Cat Power, Yo La Tengo, Placebo, Xiu Xiu, and His Name Is Alive. But, after all, I like this recording the most.
