Before you ask: Blind Idiot God took their name from H.P. Lovecraft who used this description for Azathoth. They released their first LP at SST Records where Greg Ginn heard their demo tape and just loved it. I bought their second release "Undertow" in 1989 and I am still in love with it. It teached me many things in music. Maybe it was my first encounter with spaced-out dub on the one side. But on the other side there were these absolutely stunning and warm walls of sound. And the energy that derived from that. And the fabulous speed-changes. They were 3 musicians who just liked the intensity of Metal but were bored with what came out at most of its efforts in the late 80s. They even mentioned György Ligeti as their influences. Guitarist Andy Hawkins said "When I listen to a lot of metal and hard rock, I think 'Great Intensity! Boring chords!" - He was right.
Get it here: Blind Idiot God - Undertow. (Out of print)
Btw: They returned to the stage in 2006 and are working on a new album.
